Venue type: Pub
Review: Lush Green
Easily the best of the Elephant and Wheelbarrow range with the true English ambience provided: a pub full of English people. Undeniably popular, with plenty of people at the bar at all times. The dim lighting is accompanied perfectly with the clinking of pint glasses. Or bangers and mash, should you be visiting at lunch time.
The pub itself is small, with good tables and booths throughout. A little acoustic music on a Sunday, perhaps.
On the weekend, a massive back room opens with large stage, long bar and generous dance area. Get there early enough and even a snug third bar awaits through a small door. It's a crazy night with top 40 style music as well as a leading band. The crowd is fun loving, pint clutching. And don't think it's all backpackers, either, as plenty of people from around Melbourne have this venue on their shortlist.
Our tip: there's a cloakroom in the front bar.
Always Busy
A key venue in the St Kilda scene.
Beer Garden
A little pavement courtyard out front is magic in warmer weather.
Popular With Travellers
There are loads of backpackers lurking about in this pub, especially because it's located in the backpacker haven of St Kilda.
